Today… I turn 40… and so, I sat alone this past weekend, pondering where I have been, where I have come from, where I am today, and where I am heading in my life.
I reflect on this day annually since 2002 as a day of mourning and remembrance for those that lost their lives in the tragic events of 9/11/2001. I sometimes think about how lucky I am to be alive and living my dreams. I didn’t have a close call on that tragic day, but I do reflect about how those folks woke up on that fateful morning and went about their business like it was just “another” day.
They went to work, to volunteer, to apply for jobs, in the World Trade Center Towers. They arrived for work at their respective fire stations throughout downtown New York City.
When tragedy struck, they headed the call. They helped other coworkers, and as first responders, they ran into the buildings and up many many floors. Everyone chipped in and helped in whatever way they could.
Take a brief moment to reflect on this. I think you will find some peace in the fact that you are really lucky to be here today.
I don’t expect any gifts from anyone today, but I am going to ask you for one.
Do what they did. Take action!
Help your coworkers today. Help a loved one. Help a stranger. Provide comfort, or advice, or knowledge. Don’t do it for me, do it for the victims!
Live today like there is no tomorrow. Hug the ones you love. Live your life to the fullest. Don’t wait for tomorrow… it may never come! Reach for your dreams and take action on them without delay!
